]]>Alternative to A Levels are BTEC National Certificates / Diplomas and NVQ – these are work related qualifications that also satisfy entry requirements to most courses. Visit UCAS for entry requirements for different courses in different universities. They can be done full or part time to suit work or family commitments.
There is also Access Diploma courses or Foundation Degrees, which though they are of a shorter duration can be topped up to get a full degree immediately or at a later stage in life.
Companies also run Apprenticeship Schemes whereby with appropriate post GCSE qualifications they can train you on the job and also allow you to go to university or further colleges to do Degree part-time. Hence you have your degree without the burden of student loan.

]]>The main job of the mentor is to guide and help the mentee achieve his/her set goals. A mentor is usually older and more experienced than the mentee.
Mentors have usually walked through similar paths as the mentees; they’ve made their mistakes and know what works and what doesn’t. Their desire is help the meentee avoid similar pitfalls and help them start out in life in the right direction.
Mentors will be more objective than friends. Friends will tell you what you want to hear so as not to hurt your feelings whilst Mentors will tell you the truth including what you do not like to hear. Mentor’s job is to encourage and build the mentee at the same time be objective because he/she is not wrapped up in the emotions of the ordeal.
